Airtel has been ramping up prices of its telecom plans off late but on the broadband side, things are quite different. With JioFiber coming in the picture, Airtel has been increasing benefits with regards to data and third-party subscription benefits. After being rebranded as Airtel Xstream Fiber, Airtel is now looking to take on JioFiber with unlimited data packs. However, Airtel's unlimited plans are unlike any other operator's.
Instead of offering separate unlimited data packs with lower speeds, Airtel is now giving all its subscribers a way to enjoy unlimited data. Users can now recharge with any of the available broadband plans and then make a top-up of Rs 299 to enjoy unlimited data on the network. The top-up is valid for all plans except the VIP plan that already offers unlimited data benefits.
Hence, users who purchase the Basic plan worth Rs 799 per month, the Entertainment plan worth Rs 999 per month and the Premium plan worth Rs 1,499 per month will get the option to avail unlimited data for 1 month by purchasing the Rs 299 top-up plan. The VIP plan, which costs Rs 3,999 per month, already offers unlimited data in a month as well as 1Gbps network speeds.
Do note that the data with the unlimited top-up is still not completely unlimited. Users will still have a data cap of 3.3TB data per month and for most household uses, that's usually enough when it comes to unlimited data consumption.
With the Rs 299 data limit, Airtel users can now enjoy unlimited data at various price points. For most users, the Basic plan worth Rs 799 per month makes more sense now than ever. The Basic plan already offers 150GB data per month at speeds of 100Mbps and Airtel Xstream subscription. Adding the unlimited data top-up plan makes it even better value for most users, given the 100Mbps speed. Users will then need to pay Rs 1,198 per month.
For those who seek more value, the Entertainment plan offers a free subscription to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Zee5.
However, one should not confuse the unlimited data top-up plan with the VIP plan. Airtel is still selling the VIP plan with unlimited data in a month and that comes for Rs 3,999 per month. Subscribers get a free subscription to three months of Netflix, 1-year of Amazon Prime and 1 year of Zee5. Do note that the speeds with the VIP subscription are 1Gbps as standard.
