The last few months have been quite tensed for telecom operators as each one of the new operators has been increasing prices in order to offset the losses. Before the Supreme Court's judgement regarding AGR was delivered, Jio came up with a new way to solve the debate related to the IUC charges. Jio introduced IUC charges for off-net calls and that led the industry to believe that it could end up losing customers because of that move. However, that didn't happen so far.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the telecom subscription data for the month of October 2019 and it suggests that Reliance Jio was the topmost gainer in terms of new subscriptions. Jio managed to get an additional 9.1 million new subscribers in October 2019, despite the implementation of IUC charges. In fact, other telecom operators also gained new subscribers in October 2019.

State-run BSNL, which has been in financial trouble for most of 2019, also managed to get 2.8 lakh subscribers in October 2019. Vodafone Idea sat in the third position by gaining 1.9 lakh new subscribers whereas Airtel gained 81,974 new subscribers.

With all these new subscriptions, Vodafone Idea still leads in terms of market share with a total of 31.49 per cent. Reliance Jio comes in the second spot with a share of 30.79 per cent whereas Airtel secures a share of 27.52 per cent. BSNL and MTNL combined have a share of 10.2 per cent.

Out of all the players, Reliance Jio is the only one that doesn't offer truly unlimited calls with any of its plans. Jio is currently offering free calls only for Jio subscribers whereas Airtel and Vodafone Idea are still offering truly unlimited plans. However, Jio is also compensating for the IUC charges by offering additional data benefits. On top of that, with the latest All-in-One plans, Jio is offering more data along with lots of free IUC minutes to its subscribers.

On the other hand, Airtel and Vodafone Idea are still offering unlimited plans but at slightly higher prices. Airtel is offering its unlimited plans starting from Rs 149 whereas Vodafone is also offering its unlimited plans from Rs 149. For those looking for plans with 1.5GB data per day, users will need to pay at least Rs 249 for both Airtel and Vodafone Idea.
